10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY (HISTORICAL FACT)

In 1997, Mike Kelly started EME in the basement of his home in Redford Township with one employee and the expectations of $110,000 in first year revenues.  Actual sales for ’97 were $459,700 and have grown approximately 10-20% each year.  Currently, EME resides in a 10,000 square foot office/warehouse facility with 38 full-time employees.

Mike believes in excellent customer service and “treating each customer like they are our most important client”.  Mike treats customers and employees with respect and has a reputation for his generosity to several charitable organizations.  Mike says, “That with the help of our outstanding management team and workforce, EME will continue to expand our client base and be the environmental contractor who sets the standard for others to follow”.

EME  PROMOTES SAFETY IN 2007

In March, EME partnered with Deanna DeRoo’s 5th grade class at Lincoln Elementary School (Plant City, Florida) to promote “Get Down with Safety”, a new campaign to promote Worker Safety and Kids Safety Awareness in 2007.

The students participated in the program by selecting a random envelope containing the name and picture of an EME employee and a safety theme. Don DeRoo demonstrated proper head, hearing, and respirator protection, as well as eye, hand, foot, driver and ladder safety to the students. Each of these represents the safety themes adopted by the students.

Don DeRoo and Class

Don DeRoo asked each student to create a poster illustrating their designated safety theme and adopted employee. Upon completion, the posters were sent to EME’s corporate headquarters and displayed throughout the office and warehouse. The students’ posters will be a reminder for employees to “Think Safety First” and follow “Safe Work Practices” in the office and at job sites.

To thank the students for their hard work and participation, they each received a personalized hard hat from EME.

EME has always promoted employee safety and safe work practices. This year, the push is even stronger with the appointment of David Silva as our new Safety Director. EME held a company wide meeting on May 25, 2007, allowing each employee the opportunity to participate in an informative and interactive Safety Training Day. The “Think Safety First!” mantra is stressed with each employee.

The day started with a video that included personalized messages from the students at Lincoln Elementary, thanking and reminding EME team members to be safe. There was even a safety theme song performed by the students which helped to set the tone for the rest of the day.

Our team members were given individual, updated Safety Handbooks which includes guidelines on our safety procedures. The EME vehicles were also updated with new Field Safety Binders to have procedures and guidelines available for situations faced in the field.

An OSHA video provided by Quest Environmental & Safety Products, Inc. covered walking/working surfaces, hazardous materials and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).  We then welcomed, Pat Sullivan of the Consultation, Education and Training Department at MIOSHA who reviewed scaffold and ladder safety along with general MIOSHA areas of concerns. Jason Sharp from Aramsco also reviewed using PPE in a safe manner.

Mike Kelly, President of EME, surprised our team members by donning Personal Protection Equipment incorrectly and encouraged our team to find and identify what was wrong.

The day was finished off with the EME Olympics. Our team members split up into 3 groups to build scaffolds and shower containments. Once the building portion was complete, the scaffolding and showers were inspected by Dave Silva, our Safety Director.

Safety Day was a success for everyone at EME!
